Using Facebook to Find Travel Nurse Jobs

Finding your next travel nurse assignment can be a daunting task especially when you have two weeks left in your current assignment. Although I could never be a nurse – blood kind of freaks me out, I envy nurses that take the opportunity to travel the world. Truly amazing!

Facebook-Search-Tips-Travel-Nurse-Premier-Image-600pxWhen I interview local nurses, I ask them if they would consider travel nursing and most of them fear job security and the unknown. Fear is a reality to all of us. It’s overcoming your fear that makes life worthwhile. Don’t get me wrong, some nurses don’t want to travel; they prefer permanent positions where they can establish a lifestyle around their career. Either way being a nurse is awesome whether you’re a traveler or not.

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” — Neale Donald Walsch

“Never let the odds keep you from doing what you know in your heart you were meant to do.” — H. Jackson Brown, Jr.

What most nurses don’t know are the many resources out there that allow nurses to find assignments easily and quickly even if they’re not a traveler. I could write all day about social media sites that are beneficial for travel nurses; however, I want to dedicate this blog to Facebook as it’s been my newest addiction in the travel nursing world; probably the best friendly social media resource to use when finding your next assignment.

3 Things to Know About Facebook for Travel Nursing

Facebook: Allows people to share and the make the world more open and connected

Tip #1.) Download the “Facebook Groups” App

I give all this credit to my coworker who recently introduced me to this app which I had no idea existed. This App allows you to search and manage your groups a lot easier than the Facebook App. For Androids, go to your play store and search “Facebook Groups” and download it. It’s free of charge. It’s also available for download for free in the Apple App Store by accessing it here.

3 reasons why I love the Facebook Group App

  1. Allows users to manage groups and create favorite groups
  2. View comments from other people
  3. Search for new groups

There are many other benefits to this App that I’m sure already exist that I’m not aware of. If you already use this App, I would love to hear your success in using the Facebook Group App – please comment.

Tip #2.) Searching on Facebook

For example, let’s say you’re a Travel ICU RN seeking an assignment in California; below are keywords that I suggest using in your Facebook search when choosing groups to join:

  • Travel RN
  • ICU Travel Nurses
  • Travel Nurse
  • California Travel Nurse

To search in a group that you already belong to, search by specialty, city, state, and even gross pay. There are so many ways you can narrow down the Travel RN job that you’re seeking. The keywords are endless!

Tip #3.) Join the Gypsy Groups on Facebook

I highly recommend joining all of The Gypsy Nurse Groups on Facebook. Gypsy is not owned by a staffing agency so they have strict rules for each group specifically for recruiters.

You can post questions on these groups pertaining to pretty much anything travel nursing including housing resources, compensation, stipends, assignments, etc. You get immediate responses from people in your industry; it’s great!

I really hope this helps when finding your next assignment or answering questions you have about travel nursing, local nursing, or just nursing in general. Don’t hesitate to comment to this post with any questions. I’m here as a resource to help you find your dream assignment!
